Editorial Standards

Mission

Kill the DJ is an independent online magazine that explores and celebrates the cutting-edge trends in music, music technology, audio, and video. Run by a small team of journalists and music professionals, our mission is to cover all things music, audio, and video that legacy media might miss or don't want to cover. Our mission is to guide our readers through the latest innovations and movements in music and technology, providing a platform for diverse voices and perspectives that reflect the global and ever-changing nature of music, audio, and video today.

Editorial Independence & Ethics

Even though we want to tell artists and creatives about brilliant tech that helps them streamline their routines and inspire them, at Kill the DJ, our editorial integrity is paramount. We maintain complete independence from external influences, ensuring that our content is shaped solely by the needs and interests of our readers. Our editors, writers, and contributors are committed to producing unbiased, honest, and high-quality journalism.

If you want to meet our team, take a look at the dedicated page.

We do not accept any form of compensation, gifts, or incentives in exchange for favorable coverage or product reviews without disclosure. Our editorial team operates independently from our business and advertising departments, and any collaboration between these teams is managed transparently and with editorial integrity as the top priority.

Content Creation, Product Reviews, Plagiarism & AI

Our content is crafted by a diverse team of experienced music journalists, audio tech experts, industry insiders, and freelance contributors who have expertise in the fields. We prioritize hands-on experience and real-world testing in all our product reviews, because we want to ensure that our recommendations are based on thorough and objective evaluations.

We approach every piece of content with a commitment to accuracy, originality, and depth. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited, and we strive to verify all information before publication. When we reference other sources, we provide clear attribution and links to the original content. For some of our stories, we are assisted with experts and industry pros to make sure the content is verified and trustworthy. We don't accept stories if a considerable portion of them is generated by AI.

Transparency & Disclosure

Transparency is a core value at Kill the DJ. We disclose financial relationships, investments, or other connections that could influence our coverage. Sponsored content, branded content, and affiliate links are clearly labeled.

Diversity & Inclusion

Kill the DJ is dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices within the music and tech industries. We actively seek out stories, perspectives, and contributions from BIPOC, LGBTQ+, women, and other groups. Our editorial team reflects this commitment through diverse hiring practices and an inclusive approach to content creation.

Corrections & Accountability

We recognize the importance of accuracy and accountability in journalism. When errors occur, we address them promptly and transparently. Corrections are clearly noted in the affected articles, with explanations of what was corrected and why.

Sensitive Content

In covering sensitive or controversial topics, Kill the DJ remains true to its mission of providing informed and thoughtful perspectives. Writers are encouraged to discuss potentially sensitive subjects with their editors before proceeding. The final decision on such content lies with the Managing Editor, who ensures that it aligns with our editorial standards and values.

Sponsored content, branded content, and affiliate links are an important part of our business model but do not compromise our editorial integrity. Sponsored articles (we prefer to call them "Partner Content") are clearly marked with the callout of "This story is brought to you in partnership with [Company Name]", and branded content is placed under the "Partner Content" section. Such content is created by our in-house team under curation of an advertiser.

Distribution & Licensing

Kill the DJ may distribute sponsored or branded content across various platforms. Companies may license our content for promotional use, but this does not influence our editorial independence or the integrity of our coverage.

One of the major components of our growth is the constant interaction with our readers. Kill the DJ encourages readers to reach out with any comments, tips, and suggestions on how we can improve as well as any potential complaints, such as:

  • Tips for new stories.
  • Updates or relevant information for existing articles.
  • Feedback on social discussions related to our stories.

  • Reports of potential copyright infringements.

We are open and transparent. You can always reach out to us at editors@killthedj.com, get in touch with our Managing Editor directly at clara.alex@killthedj.com, or share your opinion in comments under every article.
