As it was expected, TikTok might be banned in the US, despite Trump's executive order granting TikTok a 75-day extension to comply with a law banning the app if it is not sold. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have your content back or archive the videos you liked, watched, and enjoyed. Don’t rush to close the tab even though your TikTok app is working—it may not last long, so it’s wise to back up all the videos you want in advance.
In this brief guide, we’ll show you exactly how to do it in just a few steps.
How to Back Up TikTok Content: Use 4K Tokkit
4K Tokkit is a desktop tool that lets you view TikTok content without a native TikTok app and download TikTok videos in bulk by username, hashtag, or sounds. In addition to downloading your own videos with 4K Tokkit, you can also download your and someone else’s liked videos, remove a watermark from TikTok videos, have TikTok videos downloaded automatically on your device, and even download private TikTok accounts.
The course of actions will be slightly different depending on what you want to do with 4K Tokkit, but we’ll show you how to back up videos that contain the same hashtag. Here’s how:
- Install 4K Tokkit on your computer. It’s compatible with Mac, Windows, and Linux devices.
- Enter the hashtag with the # sign to download all or multiple videos that have this hashtag. In our example, it’s #bratsummer.
At this point, you can also enter someone’s TikTok handle to download their entire account or type in a song to save videos that have this track.
3. If you want to download videos that were uploaded to TikTok during a specific time, you can set the date range.
4. Click "Download" to save videos in HD quality. All the videos will be downloaded to a special folder that 4K Tokkit creates on your computer.
How to download your own content with 4K Tokkit
If you want to archive your own videos, 4K Tokkit can help with that too.
1. Launch 4K Tokkit.
2. Here, you can either enter the name of your TikTok account, paste the link to your account or follow this path: Download -> My Account.
That’s it! In a few minutes, your TikTok avatar and all videos you’ve posted will be downloaded to your computer.
Alternatives Way to Back Up TikTok Content
Manual Download via TikTok App
TikTok allows you to download your videos directly to your phone. If you have access to your account right now, you can do this:
- Open TikTok and go to your profile.
- Select a video and tap the “Share” button.
- Choose “Save Video” to store it on your device.
Note that the videos will be downloaded with watermarks, and downloads can be time-consuming for large accounts.

Request Your TikTok Data
TikTok also provides an option to download your entire account data, including videos, comments, and profile information. To request your data, follow these steps:
- Go to TikTok’s app settings > "Privacy" > "Download your data."
- Submit a request and wait for the download link.
- Save the ZIP file containing all your data.
The benefit of this method is that it ensures you have a record of everything beyond just videos.
We could also mention screen recording as one of options, but we thought it would be too old-fashioned considering there are tools like 4K Tokkit or its online alternatives.
TikTok Ban: What Happens Next?
It still remains uncertain, with several possible outcomes in the coming weeks and months. Trump's executive order has given the app a 75-day extension, which basically means there's a bit more time to figure things out before the ban actually happens. Here’s what could happen next:
- TikTok might get sold.
There are a bunch of people and companies reportedly interested in buying it—Elon Musk, Oracle’s Larry Ellison, even MrBeast (yes, the YouTube star). But ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, has always said they don’t want to sell TikTok. If they change their mind, it could mean TikTok continues operating in the US under new ownership.
- There could be some kind of compromise.
Trump has suggested a 50-50 partnership between the US and ByteDance, though it’s not clear what that would look like or if it would actually happen. If they find a middle ground, TikTok could stay without a full sale.
- The ban could still happen.
If no deal is reached, the law could go into effect, meaning TikTok would be removed from app stores. People who already have the app might still be able to use it, but new downloads would be blocked. Some might turn to VPNs to keep using it, while others might switch to Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts.
- Legal battles might drag this out.
TikTok could challenge the ban in court again, which could delay things further. Meanwhile, Trump could also tell the Department of Justice to just ignore the law, which would let TikTok stay available, at least temporarily.
- Advertisers and creators are already looking at other options.
If the ban actually happens, platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and even Twitch could see a big jump in users and ad dollars.
For now, it’s a waiting game. ByteDance needs to decide what they want to do, and we’ll see if any serious buyers step up. Either way, TikTok users in the US should keep an eye on the news—things could change fast.
