Spotify is giving its users a fresh way to express themselves with a new feature that allows them to design custom cover art for their playlists. Rolling out in beta today on the Spotify mobile app, the feature lets both Free and Premium users personalise their playlist covers with unique images, colours, text effects, and graphic elements.
The feature is now available on both iOS and Android.
How to create a custom playlist cover art on Spotify
Two steps, literally.
- Select a playlist and tap the three-dot menu.
- Choose the “Create cover art” option.
You can upload your own photos and experiment with various design elements, including text styles, background colours, gradients, and exclusive stickers from artists like Jun Ioneda and Shivani Parasnis.
For now, users can only save one custom cover per playlist at a time. However, Spotify suggests making copies of playlists to preserve multiple designs. The feature is currently available in English in 65 markets, with plans to expand its functionality in the future.
As part of the launch, Spotify has teamed up with several well-known musicians and visual creators. Artists like Clairo, Jamie xx, and Arlo Parks have created custom covers for their playlists, while visual artists like Pablo Rochat and Jesse Nyberg have also contributed their designs.
“Here are some songs that I listen to when we are transitioning into fall. They remind me of making fires, going for drives, and big wool sweaters. I used the new artwork tool on Spotify to make the playlist cover. It reminds me a lot of scrapbooking: labeling different eras of my life with different pictures, shapes, and colors,” Clairo says to Spotify.

In addition, Spotify has enlisted renowned album art creators such as Cey Adams, known for his work with The Notorious B.I.G. and JAY-Z, to showcase the possibilities of the new feature.
