The team behind ElevenLabs, a platform known for its AI-driven dubbing technology, has unveiled a new feature called GenFM. This addition enables users to create podcasts from text files, with support for 32 languages. The feature is so far integrated into the ElevenReader app and is available on iOS and Android for free.

GenFM uses AI-generated voices to narrate content from PDF files, e-books, and other documents. Users can adjust intonations, accents, and even include pauses and interjections to make the speech sound more natural. The tool allows up to two "AI hosts" per podcast, adding a conversational dynamic to the output.

According to TechCrunch, the AI-generated speech is convincingly realistic, with the added options enhancing the resemblance to human dialogue. Users can also customise scripts to suit their preferences.

Founded in 2022 by former Google machine learning engineer Piotr Dabkowski and ex-Palantir deployment strategist Mati Staniszewski, ElevenLabs gained attention in October 2023 for introducing multilingual AI dubbing for videos. The feature became a cultural phenomenon, inspiring a wave of memes, parody videos, and other creative content.
