Music AI, the company behind the popular Moises app, has teamed up with Audible Magic, a music identification technology company, to tackle a long-standing issue in film and television production: music licensing headaches.
The partnership combines Music AI’s expertise in audio stem separation with Audible Magic’s content recognition system, offering tools to isolate music tracks, trace their origins, and decide whether to relicense or replace them.
New Tools for Old Problems
One of the standout features of this partnership is “cinematic stem separation,” a process designed to pull apart dialogue, background noise as well as music from existing audio tracks, and identify that music.
Music AI has been refining its stem separation technology for years, with tests showing it outpaces many other services in the field. Combined with Audible Magic’s automated content recognition (ACR), which identifies songs embedded in video, the two companies aim to make the licensing process far less cumbersome.
“This partnership just makes sense,” said Kuni Takahashi, CEO of Audible Magic. “Audible Magic is proud to join Music AI’s network of state-of-the-art tools. This alliance offers creators unprecedented access to a suite of stackable tools in one place that is unified by a commitment to ethical AI practices.”
A Focus on Ethics
The companies stress the ethical framework underpinning their work, particularly in the use of AI. Matt Henninger, Music AI’s VP of Business Development and Sales, sees the collaboration as a step toward a more transparent and practical approach to audio innovation.
“We’re creating an ecosystem of all of these companies that, while making sure we do things the right way, are at the bleeding edge of innovation,” Henninger said. “We’re incredibly excited to bridge our efforts with Audible Magic to make life easier for film and TV rightsholders to do more with their content.”
