Royalty-free music libraries aren't happy.

YouTube has begun rolling out a new feature that lets creators generate custom background music with the help of AI without worrying about copyright claims, as YouTube says in a video on their Creator Insider YouTube channel.

The tool is part of the Creator Music beta, available in YouTube’s dashboard for video creators. The company announced the update in a recent video, explaining that users can now generate royalty-free instrumentals for their videos simply by typing what they’re looking for, such as mood, instruments they need, video context, etc.

“These are free for you to use, so you don’t need to worry about copyright claims,” the presenter said.

For now, it’s a creator-friendly update designed to make sourcing music faster and cheaper but for those who make money licensing tracks to YouTubers or claiming them via Content ID the move could be more concerning.
