Apple’s latest iPhone lineup has officially been announced at their 'It’s Glowtime' event, which showcased a bunch of new features that surely boost the device’s audio and video capabilities. For musicians, content creators, and anyone who relies on their phone for recording, the headline feature is the inclusion of four “studio-quality” microphones and multi-track recording in the Voice Memos app, arriving later this year.
The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models come equipped with these high-end mics, designed to provide cleaner, more authentic sound by reducing background noise, which is ideal for on-the-go audio projects. In another major update for audio, Apple is rolling out multi-track recording to its Voice Memos app. Musicians can layer additional tracks over existing recordings, which opens up new possibilities for spontaneous songwriting or rough demos. Want to lay down vocals over a guitar riff? The app will play the backing track through the iPhone’s speakers while isolating your voice for a seamless blend—all without headphones or external apps.
But it’s not just audio buffs who stand to benefit from the iPhone 16’s features. Apple has also introduced 4K 120fps slow-motion recording with Dolby Vision for stunning video capture along with the ability to adjust playback speeds after recording. The A18 Pro chip enables this, allowing creators to slow down footage to a cinematic 24fps, or experiment with half-speed playback for added drama. Apple demonstrated this tech with a live explosion sequence during the keynote, while also featuring The Weeknd's latest music video to show its creative potential.
For videographers, the Pro models now support spatial audio recording, which promises a more immersive sound experience—particularly when paired with AirPods. Thanks to the enhanced microphones and AI processing, Apple says users can capture audio mixes that separate background noise from vocals, with various customisation options for vloggers and filmmakers.
Alongside these audio and video enhancements, the iPhone 16 Pro features a redesigned camera system, led by a 48-megapixel Fusion camera and a new ultra-wide sensor, perfect for landscape shots or cinematic video. A physical camera control button has also been added, making it easier for users to manage settings on the go.
The iPhone 16 is set to hit stores on September 20, with prices starting at $799 for the base model and $999 for the Pro version.
