TikTok is packed with incredible clips, and millions of new ones are uploaded every day. But what if you want to save a few of your favorites? Luckily, there are tons of ways to do it, from built-in options to handy online tools. Let’s skip the fluff and get right to it!

💡
Just keep in mind that this isn’t exactly a conversion guide — it’s more of a download guide. But if the method you’re using didn’t save the video in MP4 format, we’ll also walk you through how to convert it, too.

Native TikTok Download Tutorial

Saving a TikTok video directly from the app to your phone is easy and doesn’t require any extra tools:

  1. Open the TikTok app on your device.
  2. Find the video you’d like to download.
  3. Tap the Share button (the arrow icon).
  1. Select the Save video option.

Once the video is saved, you’ll see a Share to box pop up at the bottom. Just dismiss it, and the video will be saved to your Photos app, ready for you to share or back up.

That’s all there is to it! However, this is a manual process, and there are some limitations that we’ll talk about in just a moment.

SaveFrom.net makes downloading TikTok videos similarly simple and quick, and the best part is that you can convert a TikTok to MP4 with no watermark for unlimited downloads. Here’s how to do it:

  2. On the SaveFrom.net homepage, paste the TikTok video URL into the input box.

There are actually quite a few similar tools that work by pasting a TikTok link into an MP4 converter. For example, Media.io is another one that comes to mind. But honestly, you don’t need a lot of tools — what we’ve covered should be more than enough for most cases.

Does TikTok Support MP4?

Yes, TikTok supports multiple video formats like MOV, MPEG, AVI, 3GP, and MP4. You can upload videos with up to 60 frames per second. There’s no strict bitrate requirement, but a higher bitrate will improve the video quality.

When you download videos from TikTok, they’re typically in MP4 format. Most download tools offer high resolution, often 720p, and some even go up to 1080p at 60 fps.

What Format Does TikTok Use to Record Videos?

TikTok records videos in the MP4 format by default. This is one of the most common and widely supported video formats, and it offers high-quality playback across various devices and platforms. The videos are usually recorded in 1080p resolution, although the quality can vary based on your device and settings.

How to Convert Any Video to MP4

If you’ve downloaded a video but it’s not in the right format, don’t worry — that’s an easy fix. All you need to do is convert it to MP4, and there are several tools available to help with that. One such tool is Restream, which offers a simple and free way to convert your video.

Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Сlick the Choose File button to select the video you want to convert. You can also drag and drop the file into the converter.
  2. After uploading, click Convert, and the tool will do the rest.
  3. Once the conversion is complete, you can download your MP4 file from the website.

Restream is just one example, and there are many other online tools that can help you do this. Most of them are free to use, don’t require any downloads or sign-ups, and will process your files quickly.

Can You Copy Videos From TikTok?

Yes, but here’s a difference between sharing and downloading. TikTok lets you share videos directly from the app, and you can save videos to your device for offline viewing using its built-in feature.

If you want to download a video to keep for later or use outside of TikTok, you might need a third-party tool or website to do it. You simply paste the video’s URL to download it.

Just keep in mind that it’s fine to save videos for personal use, but sharing or reusing them without permission could break copyright rules. Always be aware of who owns the content.

Organization Tips for Downloaded TikToks

You wouldn’t want to go through all the trouble of downloading and/or converting TikToks, just to end up with a sea of files that are impossible to sort through. To make sure you can easily find and enjoy your videos later, here are some organization tips:

  • Organize your downloaded videos by creating folders for specific topics or themes, like Dance Videos, Funny Clips, or Home Inspiration. It’ll cut down the time to find videos later on, especially if you download a lot.
  • Instead of keeping default file names like video1, video2, etc., rename them with descriptive titles. For example, use Cute Cat Compilation or Fitness Motivation TikTok.
  • If you're downloading videos from a specific date range or a certain hashtag, label the folders or videos with the date or hashtag name. Travel Vids April 2024 or Fashion #OOTD will work well.
  • If you’re downloading a lot of important videos, consider backing them up regularly, either to cloud storage or an external hard drive.
  • If you’re downloading a large batch of TikToks, consider using a download manager to organize and track multiple files in one go. Many managers allow you to set categories, and they keep everything in order automatically.
  • This might be a bit overkill, but sometimes you might want to revisit a TikTok for reference or sharing. In that case, it’s helpful to keep track of the original TikTok links in a separate text file or web document.

Happy organizing, and enjoy your videos!
