LALAL.AI Introduces Lead & Back Vocal Splitter, Expanding Vocal Isolation Capabilities

LALAL.AI has launched its latest feature, the Lead & Back Vocal Splitter, offering music producers, remixers, and audio engineers a new way to isolate lead and backing vocals from audio and video files with high precision. This new tool arrives after continued requests from the platform’s users and builds on LALAL.AI’s earlier success in vocal and instrumental separation.

The company, which made waves in 2020 with its AI-driven stem separation technology, is expanding its toolkit for creators by focusing on more specific vocal isolation tasks. This tool can now split tracks into lead vocals and backing vocals as two separate audio stems, opening up new possibilities for remixing, creating backing tracks, and enhancing vocal-centric productions.

💡
To clarify any confusion about backing vocals and how the tool handles tracks with multiple lead singers, let’s break it down before diving into the step-by-step guide. Lead vocals are the primary vocal parts of a song, usually performed by the main artist. They carry the melody and express the song’s emotional essence. Backing vocals, on the other hand, complement the lead by harmonising or reinforcing the melody, adding layers and depth to the overall sound.

In a statement, LALAL.AI said that the Lead & Back Vocal Splitter was developed in response to direct feedback from users, who wanted more control over vocal manipulation. "Many of our users have been asking for a tool like this," the team said. "After fine-tuning our AI technology, we’re happy to bring them something that offers more control over the vocal stems in their projects."

The tool is straightforward to use, following the same format as their previous products. It supports a wide range of audio and video formats, including MP3, OGG, WAV, FLAC, AVI, MP4, and more.

What's under the hood?

The Lead & Back Vocal Splitter uses advanced AI algorithms to distinguish and extract the different vocal layers from a given track. This makes it possible for users to manipulate the lead vocals and backing vocals independently—a feature that is particularly valuable for music producers, remixers, and educators looking to create custom vocal tracks.

While the tool performs best on tracks where the lead and backing vocals are clearly defined, it may encounter challenges with songs that rely heavily on vocal processing or synthesised voices. In cases where no backing vocals are present, the Back Vocal stem will be empty, leaving users with only the lead vocals.

From creating stripped-down remixes to preparing instrumental backing tracks for vocalists, or even developing teaching materials, the Lead & Back Vocal Splitter promises to simplify a once-complicated process. It also supports multi-lead tracks, allowing the tool to handle songs with multiple lead vocalists while accurately separating the backing vocals.
