Spotify has launched a new feature which is a proper lifesaver for those who can't fly without music. The "Offline Backup" function automatically generates a playlist from queued and recently played tracks, ensuring music is accessible even when users are without an internet connection.
Just like all other Spotify algorithmic playlists, the Offline Backup playlist is tailored to individual listening habits, including tracks already cached on devices, allowing for a more personalised experience. Unlike Spotify’s existing offline mode though, which requires manual downloads, Offline Backup works automatically, making it easier for users to enjoy their favourite tunes while travelling or during off-the-grid excursions.
Once users are offline, the Offline Backup playlist will appear in their Home feed. The playlist can be sorted and filtered by artist, genre, or mood for quicker navigation through tracks. Spotify also lets you add the playlist to your library for easier access. To access this feature, users need to enable offline listening in the app’s settings, specifically under "Data Saving and Offline" or "Storage." The Offline Backup will become available once users have listened to at least five songs recently.
"Offline Backup evolves as you continue to listen, so you’ll always have something new"
Premium subscribers can expect the Offline Backup to begin rolling out globally on both Android and iOS devices this week, including compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
