What Is Spotify Wrapped?
Spotify Wrapped is an annual feature that gives Spotify users a personalized year-in-review summary. It highlights your most-streamed songs, artists, albums, and genres of the year, and the point is to showcase your musical habits and preferences. The streaming platform also creates a playlist with your 100 most-streamed songs so you can relive the year in music. Plus, Spotify shares fun facts, like whether you’re in the top 1% of Taylor Swift’s listeners or what your music aura looks like.
For artists, Spotify Wrapped also features insights into their most-listened-to songs and fanbase growth. Besides the personalized stats, Wrapped also shares highlights about what’s been trending across the whole platform.
Is Spotify Doing a 2024 Wrapped?
Yes, Spotify is definitely gearing up for Wrapped 2024. Each year, Wrapped becomes a highly anticipated event, and this year is no different. Spotify hasn’t given an official release date yet, but it’s safe to expect it soon based on previous years.
Every year, Wrapped takes over social media, with millions of people sharing their results and promoting Spotify on their feeds. It’s often paired with billboards and TV ads, which usually gives Spotify’s app store ranking a nice boost. The campaign has sparked plenty of chatter — some praise it for giving Spotify tons of free exposure, and others raise concerns about how the company uses all that data. But there’s still no reason for Spotify to cancel this publicity boost anytime soon.
Spotify Wrapped 2024 Date
Spotify hasn’t officially set a date for the 2024 Wrapped yet, but some users are already getting pop-up reminders that 2024 is almost a wrap and that they should update their app to get Wrapped-ready.
Spotify has also been busy on the backend — musicians were recently asked to record a 30-second clip for their top listeners, with the submission deadline set for November 15. So we know Wrapped won’t be ready to go before that.
Here’s when Wrapped has dropped in the past:
- December 6, 2018
- December 5, 2019
- December 1, 2020
- December 1, 2021
- November 30, 2022
- November 30, 2023
Looking at past years, we can make a pretty good guess that Wrapped 2024 will likely land around November 30 or December 1.
How to See Your Spotify Wrapped This Year
When Spotify Wrapped drops, your Top Songs playlist for the year usually shows up right on your homepage. But if you missed the notification or just can’t find it, there are other ways to track it down and get your musical recap.
Here’s what you do (when it eventually drops):
- Tap the search icon.
- Type Wrapped in the search bar and hit enter.
- Look for the playlist called Your Top Songs 2024, tagged with Made for You.
- Tap on it, and your Wrapped playlist should be ready to go.
You can do the same thing on the desktop app, too. You can also check out your Wrapped playlists from previous years. Just open up the app and search for the year you want — like 2021 Wrapped — and you’ll find that year’s playlist.
Once you’ve found your playlist and want to show it off, here’s how you can share it:
- On the playlist page, tap the three dots (menu icon).
- Hit Share to see all your sharing options.
- Pick where you want to share it: Instagram, X, even direct messages, etc.
- Tap the Edit button in the corner to change the background color before sharing. Tap Done to save your changes.
When Does Spotify Wrapped Stop Tracking 2024?
There’s been some buzz lately after some users joked on October 30 that they only had 24 hours left to save their results. Spotify quickly shut down that rumor with a Halloween post on X, featuring a jack-o’-lantern and a message that read “Spotify Wrapped doesn’t stop counting on October 31st.”
Part of the fun of Spotify Wrapped is the mystery. One day, you’ll just open the app and bam — it’s there, ready to show off your top songs and artists. The same goes for when Spotify Wrapped stops tracking your music — it’s mysterious.
Does Spotify Wrapped Ignore December?
Yes. Spotify Wrapped doesn’t include music at least from December 1 onward, and you might wonder why. Well, the reason is simple: it gives Spotify enough time to gather, process, and analyze all the data from the year. This way, they can create your Wrapped and get it ready for the big reveal in late November or early December.
It’s unfortunate that your December jams don’t make the cut. But that’s just part of how Spotify works behind the scenes to make sure everything’s ready to go for Wrapped.

A Look Back at Spotify Wrapped’s Evolution
Spotify Wrapped began in December 2016 and has come a long way from its early days. The first campaign was a simple year-in-review for listeners and showed their most-played artists and songs. But by 2017, Spotify began expanding it to include artists and offered insights into their top listeners as well. In 2018, they added fun features like revealing the zodiac signs of your most-listened-to artists.
In 2019, Spotify Wrapped took a huge step forward by adopting the story format, which made it easier for users to share their Wrapped results on social media, especially Instagram. Then, in 2020, Spotify included new metrics like podcast data, quizzes, and personalized playlists, plus a special digital badge for Premium users.
In a 2021 Adweek article, social media directors from brands like McDonald’s, PepsiCo, and El Pollo Loco were asked about their favorite social media campaigns. All of them mentioned Spotify Wrapped. The McDonald’s director even called it “a masterclass on fan advocacy”.
How Accurate Is Spotify Wrapped?
Accuracy isn’t perfect. For starters, Spotify Wrapped only tracks your listening habits from January 1 through a bit of November. So, any music you discover or binge in late November and December doesn’t make the cut.
Wrapped also has some listening criteria. To make it into your year-end stats, a song has to be played for at least 30 seconds. So those tracks you skip halfway through won’t appear in your summary. Also, if you’re listening offline — say, while traveling or commuting — Spotify will count those plays once your device is reconnected to the internet. However, a delay in syncing could result in some of those listens not making it into your Wrapped data.
Then, listening in private mode may not be counted in your Wrapped stats, too. That’s because it was designed to keep your activity hidden, so private sessions won’t log data in the same way as regular listening.
Is Spotify Wrapped Only for Premium Users?
No, Wrapped is available to all users, both free and Premium. However, certain features may be exclusive to Premium subscribers. For example, in 2023, the mood and personality assessment was only accessible to Premium users. But if you don’t care about these exclusive features, you’ll enjoy a personalized summary of their listening habits just as anybody else.
How Other Platforms Got Involved
After Spotify Wrapped took off, other music streaming services couldn’t help but follow suit. Apple Music was one of the first to jump in, as it launched its Replay feature in 2019. This feature also lets users look back at their top tracks, and by 2022, they have revamped it to include more interactive elements, similar to Wrapped.
Tidal got on the bandwagon in 2020 with My Rewind, which drops every December 1, along with a Best Of series. YouTube Music rolled out its Your Music Journey email and playlist in 2020, followed by the Recap feature in 2021 and a seasonal recap by 2022. Even Deezer joined in — it launched #MyDeezerYear in 2021.
If you’re loyal to Spotify, get ready for your Wrapped 2024 — your year in music is about to be revealed!
